November 22, 2008 – Las Vegas Endurocross Grand Championship
The GEICO Endurocross team headed back out to Vegas one last time for the 2008 season for the Endurcross Grand Championship.
All four riders were pre-qualified for the Open 2 Stroke class, but had to take on the track to qualify for the Expert evening show. With close to 60 riders contending for the Expert class, to be narrowed down to 9 to make it into the evening show, the field was even more competitive than usual. Although all the boys came close, only Eric Rodgers was able to pull through for the team, winning the LCQ with a hard fought battle across the finish line.
Eric once again pulled through in the 2 Stroke Main event, finishing in second place – making him the runner up for the Endurocross 2 Stroke Champion for 2008 and also placing him in the Dash for Cash, where he was no stranger this year. Although the other guys didn’t have as much luck, the GEICO bikes were in full force letting their presence be known. Eric placed 5th in the Dash for Cash.
Damon Huffman got the hole shot in the Expert Main Event and held onto that front spot for the entire race, making the gnarly Vegas track look like a breeze. Ricky Dietrich ended up 2nd followed by Geoff Aaron. Ricky held onto the points lead and became the 2008 Endurocross Champion.
The team would like to extend a special thanks to all of their sponsors: GEICO, MSR, MAXXIS, Lojak Yamaha, Rekluse, Gaerne, Factory Connection, SCOTT USA, Acerbis, HMF, Bel-Ray, and EBC Brakes. And of course a huge thank you to our fans.
The Endurocross Vegas Finale will be aired on VS Network on December 14th at 6:00 p.m. and re-aired on December 18th at 5:00 p.m.
October 26, 2008 – Crawfordsville, IN – Klotz Ironman GNCC
For the final time for the 2008 GNCC season, the GEICO Powersports Off Road team trekked out to the track. This time to Crawfordsville, IN for the Klotz Ironman GNCC. The team rolled in on Friday night, accompanied by cool temperatures, rain, wind and even a little hail which turned the track into one large mud bog.
Jennifer Albright was unable to attend the final round due to an injury incurred at the St. Clairsville round, two weeks ago. Jennifer asked that we pass along this note:
Hello Everyone,
I first want to start by thanking you for your support not only this year but in years past; I could not be doing this without you and your support is greatly appreciated!!
I am writing to inform you that due to doctor’s orders I will not be able to attend the last round of GNCC
racing in Indiana. In the twelfth round (Power Line Park) I injured my right rotator cuff in an incident on the track during the race.
When I returned home I had an MRI done Monday and was able to get in with my Sports Orthopedic Doctor on Friday afternoon. The MRI confirmed two injuries within my shoulder including a partial tear and another questionable injury which the doctor is unsure of at this time.
The good news is my doctor does not want to rush me into surgery and the injury is not projected to be long-term but does require healing time now. He administered a cortisone shot into my rotator cuff and is having me begin therapy next week. After some therapy and a few weeks I will revisit the doctor and we will determine when I will be able to resume riding/racing. This is especially good news, meaning I will still be able to train and eventually ride over the winter months in preparation for the 2009 season kick off in March.
I am disappointed that I am unable to attend the last round of racing but I am looking to the future and a successful year in 2009.
Again - I thank you for your support and look forward to partnership in 2009.
Sincerely,
Jennifer Albright
The final green flag of the season flew Sunday afternoon, sending Josh and JT off into the woods. Between the quad races on Saturday and the wind over night into the morning, the mud started to tack up, creating beautiful track conditions for the boys. Although Josh’s start was a little rough, he quickly found his groove and settled in. Making his way through the pack, Josh was up to 13th place when he tangled with another rider, bending his front rotor and ending his day. Josh finished 14th in the XC1 Pro Class for the day.
JT Bennett was mid pack off the starting line. Pre-race, JT’s suspension had locked up forcing him to make a quick change – using the suspension from Mark Weiland’s 250. Due to the quick change, JT found himself adjusting “clickers” in the first two laps, but once he had everything dialed in, he quickly started to make up ground. JT ended up in 15th place in the XC2 Pro Lites class for the day.
The team would like to extend a special thanks to all of their sponsors: GEICO, MSR, MAXXIS, Lojak Yamaha, Rekluse, Gaerne, Factory Connection, SCOTT USA, Acerbis, HMF, Bel-Ray, and EBC Brakes. We look forward to another successful season in 2009!
A huge thank you also goes out to our fans. We hope to see you all again next year!
The GNCC banquet will be held on November 28 & 29 – stay posted to our website or www.gnccracing.com for more details. The GNCC series will restart on February 28 in Florida. See you all then!
October 11 & 12, 2008 – St. Clairsville, OH - ITP Powerline Park GNCC
The GEICO Off-Road team headed to St. Clairsville, OH for round 12 of the Can Am GNCC series. The team faced dry, dusty conditions in unseasonably warm weather - which was suiting for the 2nd annual. GEICO Luau that was held on Saturday evening. The luau turned out to be a huge success. The team was able to accommodate over 450 people with great food and fun. A special thanks to caterer Chef Glenn and his team for the fantastic food.
Team quad representative, Jennifer Albright got to face the best the track had to offer, being one of the first races of the weekend. Jen got a great start, almost grabbing the hole shot and heading into the woods in second place. After a few laps, Jen found herself in a bit of a tangle with a tree which led her to lose a few places and finish the race in 5th place in the Women’s A class and 6th O/A. This finish has Jennifer holding on to 4th place going into the final round, a mere 6 points behind 3rd place. Keep posted for Jen’s take on the race.
The Sunday afternoon races got kicked off with GEICO’s own Sarah Mitchell doing an outstanding job singing the National Anthem. JT Bennett was able to put in a couple of good laps in the front half of the race – running in the top 20 overall, but started to feel the fatigue of being off for a few months due to his injury. JT made the decision to back off the pace a bit to avoid another injury and be able to see the checkered flags at the end. JT was able to pull off a 16th place class finish for the day. JT commented that although he was slightly bummed out with his results, the overall weekend with the good racing and the awesome GEICO Luau dinner was a big success.
Josh McLevy ran into some mechanical issues on the first the lap – slightly drowning his motor in the first mud hole, forcing him to pack it up for the day. Josh was also bummed out about the problems he ran into, but to lighten the mood he commented on Sarah Mitchell’s amazing performance with the National Anthem and asked when she was going to go on tour.
The GNCC series will continue on October 25th & 26th for the Klotz Ironman GNCC in Crawfordsville, IN.
October 4, 2008 – Columbus Endurocross – Columbus, OH
The Columbus Endurocross provided the GEICO team with some new challenges as well as a little misfortune. Although the guys ran had a tough go at the track in a few heats, they all remained positive and forged on as far as they could.
All four of the GEICO riders were in the same Open 2 Stroke qualifier, meaning that at least one rider would have to move into the LCQ. Ryan and Eric Rodgers took first and second from the drop of the gate and held strong to the finish. JT Bennett was in third place until the last lap, where he got in a bit of a tangle with Johnny Barber and ended up in 5th place behind Josh McLevy. Both Josh and JT moved on to the LCQ where they both found better luck and finished 1st and 2nd respectively.
All riders in the Expert class qualified for the evening show.
The Open 2 Stroke Main turned out well for Eric Rodgers - finishing second. Unfortunately, Ryan didn’t have the same luck. At the start of lap 3, Ryan went over the bars, catching his arm in his bark busters and breaking his wrists. Preliminary results are showing that Ryan may need surgery to place a pin in his wrist. JT Bennett finished 6th and Josh McLevy rounded out the GEICO team in 8th place.
JT, Josh, and Eric all ran well in their heat races, but did not finish in the top two, therefore having to move onto the semi finals. Both JT and Eric ran into bike issues in the semi finals, ending their night. Eric threw a chain and JT completely broke the front rotor off his bike. Josh had mechanical issues from the first heat race that were unable to be fixed before the semi’s started.
The expert main was a battle for $50,000 with Ricky Dietrich being the only rider eligible to win. Although Ricky had an awesome ride, Taddy Balzusiak was able to overtake him and take the win. Geoff Aaron took 2nd place and Ricky ended up 3rd.
The GEICO team is looking forward to the Grand Championship being held in Las Vegas on November 22.
The team would like to extend a special thanks to all of their sponsors: GEICO, MSR, MAXXIS, Lojak Yamaha, B&B Yamaha, Rekluse, Gaerne, Factory Connection, SCOTT USA, Acerbis, HMF, Bel-Ray, Cycle Tech, and EBC Brakes. And of course a huge thank you to our fans.
The Endurocross series will conclude on November 22nd in Las Vegas, NV for the Endurocross Grand Championship. The Columbus Endurocross will air on the VS network on November 16th at 6:00PM.
September 27, 2008 – Denver Endurocross – Denver, CO
The GEICO Endurocross boys headed west and put on yet another good show at the Denver Endurocross, held at the National Western Complex in Denver, CO. Following a similar schedule as the first 3 rounds, the day started early and ended late as the boys had to start early with qualifiers for the 2 stroke open and the expert classes and continued on through the LCQ and Dash for Cash.
Ryan Rodgers started out the day with a great qualifier for both the Open 2 stroke and Expert classes as he won both qualifiers, moving him into the evening round. Ryan also turned one of the top 10 fastest heat laps of the day. Little brother, Eric also qualified early for the Expert class, but had to move on to the LCQ to get into the 2 Stroke Main. Eric had a few mechanical issues through the day that had the guys had to replace a broken main jet in between heats. During the qualifying sessions, JT and Josh both ran into some problems in the rock garden, putting them both just outside a qualifying position and pushing them on to the LCQ. JT was able to move onto the evening program in both classes, Josh qualified for the evening expert heats.
The 2 Stroke Main went well for Ryan and JT finishing 2nd and 3rd respectively – also qualifying them for the Dash for Cash. Eric was leading the 2 Stroke Main Event until the rock mountain got his number and caused him to throw his chain, placing him in 9th.
After a long day of being on the bike, the Expert Qualifiers started. All 4 riders made went through both the Heat Race and the Semi with only Ryan forging on the LCQ. Unfortunately none of the GEICO boys made it into the Expert Main Event, but stayed strong and came close.
Right after coming off of the track from the LCQ, Ryan had to jump right back on the line with teammate JT Bennett for one last chance to get into the main and the chance to win $500 in the Dash for Cash. Ryan was able to jump up on that podium in 2nd place and take home a $300 check. JT took a 7th place finish.
Damon Huffman took his second overall win in the Expert Main Event, placing him the points lead. Geoff Aaron and Taddy Blazusiak rounded out the podium.
The Endurocross series will continue on October 4th in Columbus, OH. The Denver Endurocross will air on the VS network on October 19th at 6:00PM and again on October 23rd at 5:00PM.
September 27, 2008 – ITP Unadilla GNCC – New Berlin, NY
As the majority of the team was in Denver Jennifer was at round #11 of the GNCC series which is held at the infamous Unadilla track in New Berlin, NY. As usual the weather would not be perfect for the morning start. It was raining and in the high 50’s when the green flag hit the air. Jennifer’s YFZ 450 fired immediately and with the help of the REKLUSE clutch she grabbed the holeshot; heading into the woods in first place.
The rain began to subside as Jen hit the motocross track; she was holding down second place and was flying. Her performance showed she was determined to stay up front. As she arrived at finish line for the end of lap one she was in second place behind race leader Traci Cecco with a thirty seven second deficit.
She fought hard throughout lap two; running with top four of the Women’s A class. Needing gas and gloves Jennifer pitted on lap 3 which placed her in fourth position but that did not hinder Jennifer’s determination to get back to the front. She caught back to the leaders and they pushed one another, swapping positions multiple times throughout the lap.
The terrain was true to Unadilla as it got rougher and rougher; as the day progressed roots became exposed, ruts became deeper and new lines formed. Jennifer worked her way into third place on the last lap but a different line and a lapped rider would hinder her efforts. She dropped to fourth continuing to regain the position. When she took the checkered she was within five seconds of the second place finisher and a mere one second behind the third place competitor. It was definitely one of the most exciting races of the season.
With two rounds remaining in the 2008 GNCC season Jennifer sits in fourth position in points. Her determination is evident and we are excited to see her performance in the last rounds of the season.
Jennifer would like to extend a special thanks to all of their sponsors: GEICO, MSR, MAXXIS, Lojaks Yamaha, Rekluse, SCOTT USA, HMF, Bel-Ray, GT Thunder, Spider Grips, HiPer Technology, FASST Co, PowerMadd, MotoPro Training, Precision, Rath Racing, Triple X Motorsports, IMS, and DP Brakes. And of course a huge thank you to our fans.
The GNCC series will continue on October 11-12 for the ITP Powerline Park GNCC.
September 13-14, 2008 – Florence, SC Endurocross and Snowshoe, WV GNCC
The GEICO Off-Road team was spread across the country once again this weekend as the boys headed south to Florence, SC for Round #3 of the MAXXIS Endurocross, while Jennifer was in Snowshoe, WV at Round #10 of the Can Am GNCC series.
The Endurocross team consisting of JT Bennett, Ryan and Eric Rodgers, and Josh McLevy put on a show again this weekend – keeping the GEICO bikes in just about every heat raced throughout the day. Eric Rodgers lead the way for the team with a win in the 2 Stroke Open Main Event, then took the top spot on the podium again for the Dash for Cash. Winning the Dash for Cash automatically placed Eric in the Expert Main Event, which he declined the spot to maintain the points lead in the Open 2 Stroke division. (Endurocross rules do not allow you to win an Open class if you race an Expert Main Event.) The other three guys placed well – Ryan (2), JT (4), Josh (6) in the 2 Stroke Open Main Event then forged on throughout the night by taking their bikes (and bodies) as far as they could by making it to the LCQ. Although all three put forth an awesome fight, only 1st place moved on to the Main Event, and that rank went to Suzuki veteran, Ty Davis. The main event ended with Damon Huffman on top, followed by Bobby Prochnau and Ricky Dietrich.
While the GEICO Endurocross team was cranking out laps in South Carolina, team ATV member, Jennifer Albright was tearing up the race track in Snowshoe, WV. On the morning of Jennifer’s race fog covered the top of Snowshoe Mountain but temperatures were nearly perfect for racing. Jennifer found herself starting on row #1 due to her third place point’s standing and after rounding the first corner she started her move towards the front. She settled in and quickly found a rhythm for the 14 mile lap. After lap one the morning course was shortened to an unheard of 4 miles due to bottle necks which Jen knew would equal a long day of lapped traffic and wide open riding. It did not slow her down as she continued to push herself. Phil and crew delivered a flawless pit stop for gas and goggles and all that was left was the wait for the finish. After 2 hours and twelve minutes Jennifer took the checkered; she placed fourth in class and 8th overall. She was one of 9 riders in the morning event totaling 235 who completed all 11 laps. After yet another great ride she sits in third place in the point’s standings.
Just a mere 9 hours after leaving the Florence Endurocross, the team – or should I say Ironmen, arrived at 4848’ above sea level atop Snowshoe Mountain for the GNCC. Ryan Rodgers was the first to take the track on Sunday racing in the morning Sportsman class. This is Ryan’s first GNCC back in a few years after winning the 250A class back in 2005. Ryan jumped right back into GNCC pace as if he never left and took a 3rd overall podium position. With little rest and a grueling 3 hour race ahead of them; Josh, JT and Eric lined up next for the 14 mile course. Josh raced his YZ450F and found himself battling bike issues. Josh was able to pull out a 12th place (XC1) finish after only being able to complete 2 laps. This finish currently has Josh sitting at 14th place in the points standing. JT jumped back aboard his trusty zinger, not even changing the tires from the EnduroX the night before and hit the trails. Due to the length of the track and a stock tank – JT had to stop each lap for gas, which allowed him time to quickly catch his breath and head back out for more, pulling out an impressive 12th place (XC2) / 35th overall finish. Although JT has missed a few races due to injury, he is still able to hold on to 22nd place in points. Last but not least was Eric Rodgers, who also has been MIA from the GNCC circuit for a few years. Eric encountered a few mechanical issues early on in the race, but after his mechanic /dad (ex-GNCCer, Keith Rodgers) made the needed adjustments, Eric forged on to a 10th place (250A) finish.
The Endurocross series will continue on September 27th in Denver, CO. The South Carolina Endurocross will air on the VS network on October 5th at 6:00PM and again on October 9th at 5:00PM.
The GNCC series will continue on September 27th & 28th for the Can Am Unadilla GNCC. The Moose Racing Snowshoe GNCC will air on the VS network on December 27th at 3:00PM (ATV) and January 3rd at 3:00PM (Bikes).
August 16, 2008 – Oklahoma Endurocross - Guthrie, OK
The GEICO Endurocross boys put on a good show at the Oklahoma Endurocross, held at the Lazy E Arena in Guthrie, OK. The day started early and ended late as the boys had to start early with qualifiers for the 2 stroke open and the expert classes and continued on through the LCQ and Dash for Cash.
The track was much different from what the team faced in Las Vegas; it was longer and not as tight, but also had a slighter tougher water hole and grueling rock garden that seemed to have everyone’s number.
All 4 riders qualified for the evening program and kept the GEICO bikes in most of the races during the course of the day. Eric Rodgers was the team’s top finisher of the day, placing 2nd in the 2 Stroke Main Event , which qualified him in the Dash for Cash race in which he placed 3rd. JT Bennett took a 6th place finish in the 2 Stroke Main and Ryan Rodgers took a hard t-bone hit right off the start that took him out of the race.
The Semi Final heat races brought an unfortunate end to the night for Ryan and Josh, however JT and Eric both qualified to move on to the LCQ for one last chance to get into the Main Event. Although both JT and Eric pushed hard and stayed strong but, neither one qualified for the Main.
The Main event brought forth an exciting battle with teammates Ricky Dietrich and Damon Huffman. Huffman put a hard push on Dietrich, but Ricky was able to stay strong and smooth to pull out the win. Colton Haaker took third place.
It was easy to see during the course of the day, the GEICO team continues to grow stronger and is a force to be reckoned with. The guys all look forward to the next event in Florence, SC in September.
The Endurocross series will continue on September 13th in Florence, SC. The Oklahoma Endurocross will air on the VS network on September 7th at 6:00PM and again on September 11th at 5:00PM.
July 5 & 6, 2008 – Las Vegas Endurocross and the GEICO GNCC
The GEICO Off-Road team was spread across the country this weekend as the boys headed west to Las Vegas, NV for Round #1 of the MAXXIS Endurocross, while Jennifer was back east at Round #9 of the Can Am GNCC series. Josh McLevy pulled off the "Ironman" and raced both.
The Endurocross team consisting of JT Bennett, Ryan and Eric Rodgers, and Josh McLevy trekked over 40 hours west across the country to fabulous Las Vegas for the first round of the MAXXIS Endurocross. The boys faced one of the toughest tracks yet as well as temperatures soaring well above 100 degrees. Although only a few weeks out from an injury, JT Bennett threw his hand in at the Open 2 stroke and Expert classes. After a few practices and qualifiers, JT’s legs let him know they just weren’t ready to race yet and the swelling and bleeding set back in. JT considered continuing on, but when team rider Eric Rodgers came in with a broken rear master cylinder, JT gave up his from his bike so that Eric could continue on – which proved to be a good decision for both riders. Eric qualified for the night show for both the Open 2 stroke main event and the Expert qualifiers. Eric finished 4th in the Open 2 Stroke main and made it to the 2nd qualifier for the Expert Main, but unfortunately was stopped there. Ryan Rodgers also qualified for the Open 2 Stroke Main and won the heat race that placed him into the evening Expert qualifiers. Ryan took a 10th place finish in the Open 2 Stroke Main. Unfortunately the heat and long day of multiple heats took a toll on Ryan and although he gave all he had in the Expert qualifier, he was unable to move on. Josh McLevy fought his bike most of the afternoon, but once he got settled in, he rode well. Josh finish 6th in the Open 2 Stroke main event, then raced time to get to the airport – Josh and JT (along with Gretchen Bennett and Mark Weiland) jumped the red-eye from Vegas to Pittsburgh to pull off the “double” and get to the GEICO GNCC in Somerset, PA.
While the GEICO Endurocross team was dicing it up in Las Vegas, team ATV member, Jennifer Albright prepared herself for a rocky race and altering weather conditions including rain, winds and sunshine with temperatures in the high 70’s. Jennifer piloted her Yamaha YFZ450 to a great start. Mistake free on lap one placed her in fourth place on the rear tires of the third place competitor. Jennifer embraced the fast but choppy course but lapped traffic would play a part in the race. Mid way through lap 2 the lead riders where all brought together in a bottle neck with Jennifer in third. In a fast portion of the course two lapped riders crashed in front to her and left her with no way to get around. She maintained fourth position for the remainder of the day, charging in hopes of catching third. Jennifer would take the checkered flag after 6 hard fought laps. She placed 7th overall and is third in class points heading into summer break.
Josh “Ironman” McLevy, exhausted from the overnight flight and 2 hour drive from the airport, jumped back aboard his trusty GEICO bike – this week a YZ450F, and took on the rocky Mountain Ridge course. Josh grew stronger throughout the day and took a 15th place finish for the day. Josh said it was awesome seeing everyone cheer him on as he came around each lap and that is what got him through the day. This finish holds Josh in 15th in points going into the break.
The Endurocross series will continue on August 16th in Guthrie, OK. The Las Vegas Endurocross will air on the VS network on August 2nd at 6:00PM and again on August 7th at 5:00PM.
The GNCC series will continue on September 13 & 14th for the Moose Racing Snowshoe GNCC. The GEICO Mountain Ridge GNCC will air on the VS network on December 13th at 3:00PM (ATV) and December 20th at 3:00PM (Bikes).
June 1, 2008 – Weekend Warrior Spartan GNCC – Sparta, KY
The GEICO Off Road team headed to Kentucky for round 7 of the Cam Am GNCC series. The conditions for the race were much different from what the team has been facing all year, with temperatures in the mid 80’s and vibrant sunshine. The track for the quads was close to perfect, by the time the bikes hit the track, the dust had become quite an obstacle.
The GEICO pit found itself a host to the Plessinger family and their lemonade stand. The Plessinger’s were “Shaking it Up for Cancer” as part of the K12 Take a Stand Against Pediatric Cancer. On Saturday alone, they were able to raise over $800 for the cause. For more information on the program, check out http://go.k12.com/operationlemonade/.
Team ATV member, Jennifer Albright took her hand at the track Saturday morning, pulling a mid pack start going into the first turn. By the time she reached the woods, she was able to make up ground in the tight, off camber corners and found herself in 3rd place. Jennifer battled lap traffic all day, but was able to hold onto her 3rd place position and put time on 4th. In the last ¼ mile of the race, Jennifer decided to say hello to a tree, which flipped her quad, but she was able to quickly pick herself up and head to the checkered flag. Albright finished 3rd in the women’s quad A class and 6th overall. This finish moves Jennifer up to 4th place in the class for the season, just 2 points shy of 3rd.
The Sunday bike race didn’t go as well for the GEICO boys. Josh McLevy found himself tangled up at the start forcing him to push hard to catch the rest of the field. Josh had run into some problems due to his crash and the heat that only allowed him to complete one lap. Josh is still able to hold on to his 15th place for the season so far.
JT Bennett was mid pack at the start and up to third place going into the woods. JT said his bike was running better than ever until his rear wheel caught a rock causing his bike to start swapping back and forth. The bike finally came to a halt against a tree, but sent JT airborne over the bars when he came to a halt against the next tree. Thanks to Andy Shea for seeing JT and going to get him help. It was originally thought that JT broke both femurs and was air lifted to the University of Cincinnati Hospital where he was x-rayed and CAT scanned. All tests came back clear, thankfully with no breaks. JT has some pretty bad bruised and scrapped up thighs. The doctors told him that it will be a good 3-4 weeks before he’s back to normal.
JT wants to thank everyone that helped him on Sunday and everyone for their concern, thoughts, and prayers. No one ever plans or even thinks of these situations ever happening, but it’s great how everyone rises to the occasion and helps out when it does. THANK YOU.
JT’s wife Gretchen was a bit freaked out when she found out what happened, but thanks to the Racer Production crew, especially Carrie Russell and Big John, Gretchen was able to calm down a bit and get off to the hospital where she was able to find JT in good spirits and joking with the nurses. The nurses even told her when she got to the hospital that JT asked them to send an ambulance for her because she was probably in worse shape than him. Gretchen wants to thank everyone that helped JT, and Carrie, Big John, Mark Sippel, Dan Nudi and Monica Conner for all of their help as well.
The GNCC series will continue on June 20 & 21 for the Elka Yadkin Valley Stomp GNCC. The Weekend Warrior Spartan GNCC will air on the VS network on November 8th at 3:00PM (ATV) and November 15th at 3:00PM (Bikes).
May 11, 2008 – Weisco John Penton GNCC – Millfield, OH
The GEICO gang stayed north and headed west to OH for Round 6 of the Can Am GNCC series. Once again the team faced muddy track conditions, probably the worst of the season yet.
Rain drenched the area on Friday night to give the weekend a slimy start. Jennifer Albright was the first of the GEICO crew to take on the muddy track. Albright had a decent start, rounding out the first turn in the lead pack, but then ran into some problems and battled all day to gain some ground. Jennifer was able to salvage a 7th place finish and 25th overall. This finish puts Jennifer in 5th place so far for the season, just 10 points out of 3rd.
Rain was back in the forecast for Sunday and it didn’t let us down. The original 11 mile track had to be cut back to an 8 mile course and cut back once again during the race. JT described the course as a “warzone,” with the carnage of blown up bikes all around. Both JT and Josh had to stop every lap to get their grips cleaned and fresh goggles and gloves.
Josh McLevy had a mid-pack start and climbed his way to a 7th place in the first lap. Unfortunately for Josh, the second lap brought with it some bad luck when Josh got stuck in a bottle neck and lost all of his antifreeze. McLevy was able to make it back to the pits, fill up on liquids, get new googles and gloves and head back out to have fun in the mud. Josh finished 10th for the day keeping him in 15th so far this season.
JT Bennett was back again on his 125 and having a ball. JT, a long time mud rider, was rumored to be doing a rain dance Saturday night before going to bed. Bennett had a great start into the woods and rode strong all day, maintaining a top 10 placing all day. JT finished 10th in the class and 23th overall.
GEICO support rider, Ryan Kaintz pulled out an astounding 1st place finish in the Vet C class in the morning race giving him a 6th place finish overall.
The GNCC series will continue on May 30 & June 1 for the Weekend Warrior Spartan GNCC. The Weisco John Penton GNCC will air on the VS network on October 25th at 3:00PM (ATV) and November 1st at 3:00PM (Bikes).
April 28, 2008 – Acerbis Loretta Lynn’s – Hurricane Mills, TN
Round 5 of the GNCC series takes the GEICO Off Road team south once again as they headed to the Dude Ranch of Loretta Lynn in Hurricane Mills, TN. Rain seems to also be following the series this year, as a storm rolled in late Friday night, drenching the track making it slick and tricky.
Jennifer Albright kicked off a good start to the weekend for the GEICO team. Albright had a respectable start, heading into the woods in 4th place. The first lap was full of adrenaline for Jennifer and at the conclusion she was still in fourth with third place in sight.
As the race progressed Jennifer moved into the top three which progressed into a great battle between second, third, and fourth place which lasted until the checkered flag flew. In the end it was a mere four seconds that separated second through fourth place. Jennifer pulled out a 3rd place finish, landing her on her first podium of the year. This finish puts Jennifer in a tie for 4th place in the class and just 8 points out of 3rd.
Rain was anticipated again for Sunday, but never showed up until after the race. This allowed the 13 mile track to dry up a bit granting next to perfect conditions for the bikes.
Josh McLevy had a mid-pack start and stayed there for the majority of the day. Josh battled some suspension issues, but continued to forge on throughout the race and continue to remain on the lead lap. Josh finished 15th in the XC1 Pro class and 39th for the day. This finish keeps Josh in 15th place for the season so far.
JT Bennett was back and on his 125. JT had a rough start and struggled to catch up all day. With the track having such great traction, the 125 was a bit under-powered compared to the 250 4-strokes that JT contended for the 3 hour race. JT took a 15th place finish for the day.
The GNCC series will continue on May 10 & 11 for the Weisco John Penton GNCC. The Acerbis Loretta Lynn’s GNCC will air on the VS network on October 11th at 3:00PM (ATV) and October 18th at 3:00PM (Bikes).
April 20, 2008 – National Hare Scramble – Logan, OH
A rain soaked track made a tough course even more challenging for the contenders of the first National Harescramble of the year held in Logan, OH. GEICO rider JT Bennett took his hand at the slimy course for his first ride back in over a month.
Weather conditions played a tremendous role in the race, although it did not rain during the race, the track had experience some heavy rain prior to the start. The three hour race was a 10 lap excursion through a tight, tough, slimy 6 mile loop. JT commented, “The track was really rough and wet, but it was a lot of fun being back on the bike, especially back on the 125 – it was nice to ride.” That’s right, JT was back on his “Zinger”… in the mud, and for all that know JT well, that’s when he does his best. Although JT destroyed a pipe by “smashing” into a tree, he pulled himself together and forged on to a hard earned 6th place overall finish.
April 20, 2008 – Southern Off-Road Championship Series – Sparta, GA
A dry - rough track awaited the ATV afternoon event which kicked off at 1:00pm. GEICO rider Jennifer Albright lined up within the Men's A class and hoped to gain momentum and place in the top three in the class. The green flag went up and Jennifer piloted her Yamaha to the first corner, grabbing the holeshot and pulling away from the class almost immediately. By the second lap she had caught and passed most of the Pro class riders who started a minute ahead of her class and was in contention for the event overall.
Lap after lap Jennifer pushed herself and she actually gained the physical overall lead by the third lap and took the white flag into her fourth and final lap. She held the physical overall lead until the last corner where she made the smarter decision to avoid a massive mud hole. Although she did not get the physical overall she did win the event overall, the first of her career - which is an amazing accomplishment.
GEICO's Albright is training hard and looking strong heading into GNCC's round number five held at Loretta Lynn's Dude Ranch in Hurricane Mills Tennessee.
April 13, 2008 – Pirelli Big Buck – Union, SC
The GEICO Off-Road crew headed to Union, SC for Round 4 of the Can Am GNCC series. The team faced a little rain on Saturday, which provided tricky track conditions for the quad races on Saturday, but by the start of the afternoon race on Sunday, the weather was perfect.
Jennifer had a decent start heading into the woods in fourth place. Albright was able to stay within the top five all day. It rained off and on during the race which made the track deteriorate quickly, however Jennifer took the challenge on like a champ, finishing 5th place in the class and an impressive 8th place overall. So far for the season Jennifer is sitting in 5th place in the Women’s Quad A class.
Josh had a mid pack start, but was passed by a few people before entering the woods, due to being overly cautious. McLevy made it to about the half way point on lap 1, when a bad line choice left him stuck in a mud hold. After pushing and pulling for a bit, some spectators helped him pull his GEICO whip out of the mud bog. Josh throws out a big THANKS to those spectators.
Josh had falling a bit of the pack due to the mud hole extravaganza, but was determined to climb back into the battle and work towards another finish. Near mile 10 on the first lap he had to stop for a few minutes with a down rider who had made a big splatter in the trail wooded area. He actually had to ride backwards on the track to the parking lot, and let the medics know where the rider was down. (FYI – the down rider is slowly recovering and will be back as soon as he can. He made sure to contact Josh after the race to thank him for all of his help.) Josh finished 14th in the XC1 class and 44th overall. This race puts Josh in 15th so far for the season.
Josh commented on the race: “I was able to continue after that, somehow stay on the lead lap, and finish the race. There is more work to be done on getting my speed back, but I am looking forward to it! “
JT unfortunately had to miss the South Carolina race but will be back at Loretta Lynn’s. He is back riding and looking forward to the competition and the fun of GNCC racing.
The GNCC series will continue on April 26 & 27 for the Acerbis Loretta Lynn’s GNCC. The Pirelli Big Buck GNCC will air on the VS network on September 27th at 3:00PM (ATV) and October 4th at 3:00PM (Bikes).
March 30, 2008 – FMF Steele Creek – Morganton, NC
It’s been 3 weeks and GNCC racing is back in action at the FMF Steele Creek in Morganton, NC. This week brought with it great riding conditions with comfortable temperatures and a watered down track from the early rain on Saturday.
Saturday morning brought rain, winds and cool temperatures for the ATV races. Jennifer had a great start which led to her entering the woods in third. She made an early pass to take over the second spot behind Traci Cecco where she remained for the first two laps. With the conditions Jen pitted for new gloves and gas at the end of lap 2. She hit the track only to come across a bad bottle neck which cost her a lot of time and positions as she was in the middle of the bottleneck and unable to maneuver out. Jennifer continued to push throughout the day but the bottleneck had done its damage and she ended her day in 9th. Jennifer is currently in 7th place for the season, just 7 points out of the top 3.
Josh McLevy was the lone representative for the GEICO team in the afternoon pro race as XC2 rider JT Bennett was still sidelined with the flu. McLevy had run into a bout of bad luck when he crashed on lap 2 injuring his shoulder. Josh is back on the bike working out the kinks and will be ready for the next race in Union, SC. Josh currently sits in 16th place for the season.
As previously mentioned, XC2 Pro Lites rider JT Bennett was unable to race this round due to complications with the flu. JT is heading back to the doctor looking for the go ahead to race round 4 in South Carolina.
The GNCC series will continue on April 12 & 13 for the Pirelli Big Buck GNCC. The FMF Steele Creek GNCC will air on the VS network on August 30th at 3:00PM (ATV) and September 13th at 3:00PM (Bikes).
Talk to you soon!
March 9, 2008 – Maxxis General – Washington, GA
Just 4 days after Round 1 of the Can Am GNCC series opener in Melbourne, FL, the team traveled north to Washington, GA for the Maxxis General GNCC. The team faced weather on Saturday for the quad race that was much different than that of the FL round – experiencing snow flurries and during the morning race. Rain on Friday set the technical track up with muddy conditions.
Jennifer Albright got off to a mid-pack start on her GEICO Lojak Yamaha YFZ450 and by the end of the first lap was up to 6th place. Jennifer had battled her way up to the 3rd – 5th pack when she ran into clutch problems. After being towed in on the final lap, Jennifer finished 9th in the Women’s A class for the day.
Sunday brought with it more promising weather with bountiful sunshine and wind. These weather conditions helped tack up the muddy track for perfect racing conditions.
GEICO support riders Ryan Kaintz and Dan Nudi did the team proud earning a 5th and 17th place finish respectively. The boys felt as though they were getting dizzy as they completed 7 – 15 minute laps in a 2 hour period. Rumors have it that a banner was forgotten after the mini race and these guys had to run the same course. None the less they did great!
Josh McLevy lead the way in the afternoon for the GEICO team, climbing from a 17th place start. McLevy finished the 7 lap race in just over 3 hours, bettering his results from the FL round to a 14th place finish in the XC1 Pro class and 25th overall. After 2 rounds, Josh sits in 16th place – just 11 points out of the Top 10.
XC2 Pro Lites rider JT Bennett was unable to race this round due to illness. JT is feeling better and out riding and getting ready for the next round in Morganton, NC.
The team would like to extend a special thanks to all of their sponsors: GEICO, MSR, MAXXIS, Lojak Yamaha, Rekluse, Factory Connection, SCOTT USA, Acerbis, HMF, Bel-Ray, and EBC Brakes. And of course a huge thank you to our fans.
The GNCC series will continue on March 29 & 30 for the FMF Steele Creek GNCC. The Maxxis General GNCC will air on the VS network on August 16th at 3:00PM (ATV) and August 23rd at 3:00PM (Bikes).
We promise to have pictures up soon. Stay tuned!

March 1-4, 2008 – Parts Unlimited Triton – Melbourne, FL
Another season of racing kicked off on Sunday March 2nd at the Parts Unlimited Triton GNCC in Melbourne, FL. For the first time since revamping the team with exciting additions to the '08 squad, the TDI Racing/GEICO Off-Road motorcycle team was finally all together in the same place at the same time. The team would also like to send out props to the GNCC Crew for hooking us up with a great location for our new pit spot/home for the season – right in front of the finish line, where everyone ends up at some point or another throughout the weekend.
The track was a little more technical this year than in the past years with a few extra roots, palmettos, and mud bogs. The area had seen some rain leading up to the race, leaving conditions perfect for racing – low dust and some mud. Add over 1200 riders to the mix and you've got yourself quite a racetrack.
GEICO female quad rider Jennifer Albright scored big for her debut on the team. With Jennifer being a local favorite, she had a lot of buzz around her all weekend not only at the track, but around town as well; being featured in several stories in the local paper. Jennifer had a great race from start to finish, staying strong all day and coming out with a solid 3rd place finish and a 9th overall out of almost 200 riders.
Josh McLevy, our XC1 rider had a positive day, finishing on the lead lap which was the goal for the race considering Josh missed most of the 2007 season due to a shoulder injury. Josh had a midpack start (lining up next to superstar Travis Pastrana) coming out of the first lap in 21st place. McLevy forged through the day strong and made up 5 spots to finish 17th in the class.
JT Bennett came across a little misfortune in the XC2 class, running out of gas on the third lap about a mile away from his pits. Thanks to some great fans that jumped in when seeing him push, and his pit crew running across the field with gas, JT was off again – unfortunately he had a lot of catching up to do. After the race, JT said he felt great and was counting down the days until the next round in Washington, GA for a little redemption.
The team would like to extend a special thanks to all of their sponsors: GEICO, MSR, MAXXIS, Lojak Yamaha, Rekluse, Factory Connection, SCOTT USA, Acerbis, HMF, Bel-Ray, and EBC Brakes.
We also want to thank everyone for tuning into our website for updates and all the support we receive throughout the year!!
The GNCC series will continue on March 8 & 9 for the MAXXIS General GNCC. The Parts Unlimited GNCC will air on the VS network on August 2nd at 3:00PM (ATV) and August 9th at 3:00PM (Bikes).
We promise to have pictures up soon. Stay tuned!
